Types of Retirement Division Orders: The type of order needed to divide a retirement plan pursuant to a separation or divorce depends on the plan itself.  Examples:  qualified domestic relations order (QDRO) to divide 401(k) plans and other defined contribution plans; QDRO to divide pensions and other defined benefit plans; order or decree dividing an IRA; court order acceptable for processing (COAP) regarding the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) and the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS); Retirement Benefits Court Order (RBCO) for the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP); domestic relations order for the Supplemental Retirement Income Plan of North Carolina (the State 401(k) Plan), the Local Governmental Employees Retirement System (LGERS), and the Teachers and State Employees Retirement System (TSERS).
